Baby 10 months constipated

flowerzchox · 01/06/2023 18:52

Just been prescribed this for my baby CosmoCol Paediatric

This is a laxative. This medicine is used to: - treat chronic constipation in children aged 2–11 years. - treat impaction in children from 5 years. Impaction is persistent constipation, where a large volume of stools cause a blockage of the rectum and / or colon

She's 10 months 😕 does anyone know anything about it?

Dose on the front says from 2 hrs so I when I checked it says not to use to babies ?!

Sorry I don’t know the medicine, but have you tried prunes first? Either buy the pouches or blitz some prunes into a paste. Baby loves it and it really gets the bowels moving. Sorry if you’ve already explored things like this, I know it’s not what you asked.

I should also say that a lot of medicines are prescribed ‘off label’, that’s pretty common. They haven’t done tests on smaller babies but it may be commonly used anyway. (Source: my husband is a GP, but I haven’t asked him about this specific medicine)

Not sure on this specific medication but I echo the above PP. My 11 month old was put on piriton at 4 months (very small dose)
The label says not to give to under 1. Again as the PP says (who has way more of a better source than me) this is quite common.

I would call the GP if you are worried though

It's often prescribed off label for under 2s, my DS has been on movicol (same thing, different brand name) since 6 months ☺️
