Tell me about 9 year olds!

I've been asked to run an art class for 9 year olds but I only have experience with much younger children. Could you tell me about 9 year olds? What do they like? What are they capable of? What's their attention span like? What keeps them interested? Mumsnet help!

I can only answer for my niece who is 9.

Craft wise she LOVES painting - we take her to crafty sessions all the time and her favourite thing is painting the ornaments. She also loves creating pictures with stickers/materials and glue. We have attempted making those crochet ball things but it was too complicated. I think at that age they have a fairly good attention span, at least my niece does, but keep it fun and interesting with lots of little fiddly and glittery bits!
