Extra curricular activities for music?

Hi all. My son (12) is not your typical boy, not typical for round here anyway! Not into sports! Or hanging around the town! He loves music and plays drums. He is also a bit of a lonely child as he doesn’t ‘fit in’ with the other children his age who want to play football or just hang around in big groups. So my question is, are there such places that would be good for him? Like music clubs? I’m a big clueless but would really like for him to make friends with children with similar interests. I suppose they’re ‘alternative’ interests you could say. Rock music, extreme sports, etc.

Try contacting your local education authority music lead or ask his music teacher at school.

Well, as far as music goes, are there any Concert Bands/Orchestras locally that he might be able to join? Or other music ensembles? My daughter joined a local brass band when she was about the same age. They loved her - she was about fifty years younger than most of them 😂, but she moved it and her presence then encouraged a few other younger members to join. She then joined a Colliery brass band when she was a bit older, plus various bands at school and has gone on to study music at Uni. It gave her a whole new group of people, like her, to mix with. She plays trumpet and bass and a few other instruments but imagine there will be similar opportunities for percussion if you look in to it.

We have a franchise of this near us, couldn't persuade my daughter to give it a go, so don't know what it's actually like though! It is tuition, but also the kids play in bands together too.

Whereabouts in the country are you? Where I live there are loads of opportunities but we're very lucky here
