Can you ever win at parenting?

I'm a mum to 2, both under 3 with a 14m age gap, I think I'm a good mum. I ask nicely, say thank you when they listen, give them my full attention etc etc.

Something happened on the weekend which is playing on my mind.

Was out with both on my own, took them out for a nice walk along the river and got bits from the shop to have a picnic in the park.

Eldest was walking beside me and kept pushing in to the pram and getting his foot caught. I asked him to not do that as he'd hurt himself, lots of cars. He kept doing it and doing it. I firmly said no and to stop but he still wouldn't listen. I ended up shouting at him to stop.

A stranger had a go at me for shouting at him. She obviously saw me shouting and not me asking nicely and then firmly.

Was I wrong for shouting? It's made me feel like a shit parent.

Nope. You are a human. I practice gentle parenting but there are occasions where I have either just lost my shit because I am overwhelmed or its been dangerous (like when DD managed to get out of her buggy as we crossed the road). Then I shouted.

To me the difference is - you don't like the fact you shouted. That's what makes you a good parent. Bad parents are the ones who do it without thought or care.
