Earwigs in Sandpit

I've had my wooden sand pit for a week...and yesterday about 50 earwigs hurried out when we opened it. Its a wooden sand box with a lid. Any tips to get rid? Gutted as the kids really want to play

I would clear out the existing sand and replace with new (make sure you're getting play sand not builder's sand etc) and then mix cinnamon in with the new sand. Make sure lid fits tightly when not in use.
