I have caught a horrible cough and I'm struggling to talk without coughing. I've done a covid test and was negative. I need to get better so I can take care of my 3yo and 10mo. DH is helping but also works FT and my only other help is DM who is unwell too. I dont have time to rest and I'm BF. What can I take? What can I do? Help me!!!

Do you get hayfever?

I discovered a couple of years ago that a persistent cough I thought was a chest infection was actually 'just' hayfever when I had an allergic reaction, took some anti-histamines and my cough calmed right down.

@Mamabear04

Chamomile or ginger and lemon tea with lemon and honey.

Or even just hot water with lemon and honey

Lots of liquid

I started with a cough last week and this is my go to.

@FatAgainItsLettuceTime I'm pretty sure it's a horrible nursery cough DD brought home and then coughed square in my face. I'll try anything so will let you know if the antihistamines work!

@stopringingme I've tried hot drinks but they don't even ease it!

I ve recently had a horrible cough virus. It lasted for 8 weeks with the cough becoming less frequent after the first week. Like you I tested negative for covid. I found sleeping a bit propped up helped and regularly drinking small sips of water. I got desperate enough to resort to cough medicine but that did sod all!

Antihistamines and sweets. Cough sweets or any sweets you suck.

When we had whooping cough the ONLY thing that helped was constantly sipping incredibly cold (kept in the fridge and then with lots of ice) water. Worth a try-particularly if hot drinks aren't working.
