7 month old teething - fever and vomiting

Hey guys, my 7 month old DS is currently teething, his top 2 teeth came out last month and 4 more are about to come out including two top teeth. He has pain, and today he has a fever too. Also, he’s spitting up milk and he’s crying a lot too. I took him to the GP this morning who just said keep giving calpol and use teething powder if bonjela doesn’t help. What else can I do to help? Is it normal for a teething baby to be down with a fever? And vomiting? Not sure why he’s vomiting tbh, he didn’t burp after feeding earlier which may be why but sometimes he doesn’t burp but he never vomits. Worried 😔

It's definately normal for a teething baby to have a temperature, unsure about the vomiting though. If I were you I would call 111 just to be safe and put your mind at rest x

Is he actually vomiting, or just spitting up?

I think proper vomiting plus a fever is unlikely to be teething. Being slightly warm and spitting up more I think is more common. But I wouldn't be worried, if it's not teething it sounds just like a virus. As long as he's keeping fluids down and it's just been today?

If it’s proper projectile vomiting and the fever is higher than low grade, then o agree it’s not likely to be teething. I’d call 111 and try and get an out of hours GP appointment tonight or tomorrow morning.

Thank you so much guys. It wasn’t proper vomiting, it was more like spitting up milk. It’s just been today, as he’s teething. Not sure if it’s because of teething or a viral infection. He’s keeping fluids down and he’s eating well too as usual.

Relief! No need for 111 then.

It’s definitely not proper vomiting, just spitting up milk but he’s moody which might be due to the tooth pain. He’s feeding well and eating well (I’ve moved him onto solids). How do I know though that he doesn’t have a tummy ache? I’m assuming it’s only tooth pain because he’s teething but I’m not sure if he has some other pain too?

Hello. I reckon he's got a bug as well as teething. DS 2 tends to throw up whenever he has a temperature, including for illnesses not usually associated with vomiting, eg a bad cold. I've never heard of teething causing vomiting. I wouldn't worry as long as he's having wet nappies, his temp comes down with calpol and he seems alert. Sounds grim for you both though!

Maybe a bit of a virus on top of teething but as he's eating well and keeping things down etc then I wouldn't worry.

Maybe he does, but I still wouldn't worry. If he stops being able to keep anything down (fluids in particular) then I'd worry more, as he's still very young. But his stomach can't be bothering him too much if he's eating fine.

Thanks so much guys. 😊
