How to meet other toddler mums

If anyone has been in a similar boat, or just generally has advise that would be much appreciated.

I would like to meet some other mums of toddlers in my local area to arrange some play dates for my son. And if I can make some new friends then even better.

But I'm very shy and have really struggled to meet other mums & get past the polite chat stage, or to be honest just starting the polite chat is often a struggle , I feel like everywhere I go, all the mums come in pairs/groups.

Any advise on how to meet mums?

I have a toddler and have never really done the ‘mum friend’ thing and wouldn’t want much to do with someone who I thought was just after play dates for their kid. I think what I’ll do to give us both the chance to meet other parents/children is take my little girl to a group or class of some kind on my non working day in the week.

You could try something like that.

Find two or three weekly toddler groups to go to. Stick with them for three weeks... see what happens.

I just went to local toddler groups and sat with the mums. I found it easier to start before the toddler stage as everyone was sitting with babies and not running about after toddlers so you could actually get a conversation going.

If you keep going every week you will start to get to know people. Most of the mums there will be looking for the same thing and many will be feeling the same way you are. Everyone just wants some adult conversation and to hopefully make friends. Keep at it. I found playgroups in local church halls to be the best for making friends- things like baby sensory not so much and we stopped going.

Toddler groups!! I met my very best friends 18 years ago at toddler groups and we are still very close today... 12 kids on! 😊
We went from meeting at toddler group, to meeting at cafes / soft play and then at each others homes.
