Downstairs bathroom at night

I’m just musing about when I’ll feel ok to let DD go downstairs to the bathroom at night.

We live in an old cottage with steep stairs and the only bathroom is accessed from a rear hall either via the kitchen or sitting room. DD currently uses a potty upstairs, she’s almost dry at night and does sometimes wake to use it at night. She can’t currently reach the door handle for the bathroom so we’d have to change that (can’t leave it open as it’s absolutely freezing).

If you have a downstairs bathroom only, what age is it usual to let children roam? There’s actually nothing stopping DD physically, but she is very compliant and doesn’t go downstairs at night because we asked her not to (and I think she would be scared).

This is no biggie btw, I’m just thinking out loud really. Just interested in what others do.
