Bottles vs sippy cups

Hello everyone

ftm here so looking for advice. My 7 month old is getting her teeth and my dentist suggested I move her onto sippy cups as bottles can cause damage to teeth. After looking more into it though, is there really much difference? Did you move your little ones off the bottle when their teeth came through? My mum never did with all 4 kids and we never had issues… advice please?

I breastfed so if you mean for a milk feed with formula then I'm not sure (but I think most of my friends stuck with bottles)

However I did Introduce an open cup from 6mo for water, so we sort of skipped the sippy cup stage. From 12mo shes had cows milk or water just from an open cup. It takes some patience but they do get good at it quite quickly. We just use a water bottle out and about

I think most people that are already bottle feeding stick with bottles for formula until age 1. That is what we are doing. I think the official advice is to phase them out after that but I know several people still using them at 2 or 3. Some sippy cups and straw cups are harder to sterilise than bottles. Mine is now 10 months and drinks water from sippy cups and straw cups but hasn't mastered the open cup yet although i plan to work on this over the next month or so.

Its normally recommended to move away from bottles at 1 year. You can give water in a lidded cup from 6 months which will help with getting used to using a cup instead of a bottle. I wouldn't worry about giving formula in a bottle at your dcs age.
