Blackout thermal blind or shutters?

Hi, we've just moved and DS room is 25 degrees tonight because the sun sets on his room. I have a tommee Tippee blackout blind and blackout curtains, but the blind is definitely making the room hotter.

I'm thinking of getting thermal blackout blinds as I hear they keep the room cooler in the summer? And if so, would a dark colour be ok or make it hotter?! My FIL also mentioned that white shutters would work well too, but I'm not sure if that will be dark enough really.

Not sure what to do for the best! Thanks!

Shutters with integrated blackout blinds should do the trick. I could highly recommend ShutterLab for advice

We have had several versions of each: exterior wood shutters, exterior rolling aluminum shutters. Interior blackout blinds black and light colored.
The worst: Interior blackout black colored roller blinds kept the room very dark but absorbed so much heat (and retained it inside ) and even cracked a window we had to have replaced! This was in a mountain climate so not too hot in summer! The best for insulation against heat in summer and cold in winter are heavy exterior wooden shutters painted white or a light color. They do cut out the light completely too. But you do have to manually open and close every day and they require repainting every 5 years or so. I still prefer this version, but live in a hot climate. Next best choice exterior aluminum shutters. Very practical, great for keeping out the light but not as efficient against heat in summer.

If for some reason you choose indoor rolling shutters white is better for insulation, add curtains for thermal.

Hope this helps!
