My current placement is boring me to tears.

For the past two days I have sat and done nothing, nada, not a jot of work. Have been sat at a pc trying to look busy while the rest of the office blatantly ignores me.

My mentor has gone 'sick' for the week (elective cosmetic surgery 'sick') and as such I have noone to follow around.
The other CPN's obviously cannot be arsed with students unless they themselves are mentoring them and so go out on visits/assessments etc and dont bother asking if I want to go along and observe.

Im not exagerating when I say that sice last tuesday, apart from one home visit, I have done fuck all.

I have a bad chest infection and have literally dragged myself out of bed each morning to go in and show willing, in the hope that I will actually get to observe/participate in some kind of care delivery.

Fuck it, Im going to the Drs at 4pm to get some antibiotics for my chest, and I am not going back into my placement until next monday when my mentor decides to show her (new?) face.

Emma

have you ASKED anyone if yuo can go? As a mentor, its quite nice to be asked - and some nurses even think you SHOULD ask them - I don't agree with this, but perhaps they are used to students who don't ask and don't WANT to do anything.
Doesn't excuse a crap placement though.

Yes- This morning I commented that I didnt have much uni work to catch up on and so would be able to accompany anyone on visits etc. They all carried on with their business, occasionaly leaving the office to do stuff.

Such a bad atmosphere there, nobody talks to one another at all. The office is just silent all the time.
Its weird.

Sounds dreadful...hopefully things improve when your mentor is back!

Thats rubbish

I have had similar experiences, I find pestering helps a bit but no real advice.

Have you posted about it on the student nurse forum, they might be able to be more helpful than me!
