Can I leave 2 dc playing by themselves upstairs ?

If they are happy pop in every so often perhaps tidy upstairs so you can hear what is gooing on

i leave my dt's age 3 to play upstairs, but i leave door open downstairs so I can hear them and pop up every so often.

just leave them to it! That's what I would (and do) do. I tend not to pop up as frequently as every 5 minutes either

I would do this. Leave them as long as they are happy and you are confident that they are not/can't destroy anything (including themselves).

Must say I too would tend to find an activity upstairs after a while just to keep an eye on them - but not interfere with them in anyway.

I would anyway, I do all the time (aged 2 and 4 and their associated cronies)

my DSs aged 3 and 4.5 play together upstairs all the time - they have a playroom and have been doing this for about 6 months. If I can't hear them I will go up - shout up to check on them every so often but I can usually hear them no problem!

They sound fine - assuming you know they are safe, just run if you hear a loud noise and then a scream or cry, or if it goes very quiet! Otherwise, enjoy being able to get on with what you need to do while the LOs are occupied.
