DD is 2.5 (but small for her age), we've had issues with nappies for ages, find some that absorbent enough for the massive amounts of wee she produces. Finally found Pampers size 7 are up to the job, but now she keeps undoing the tabs at the side!
I think we need to try pull-ups but every one we've tried leaks, she ends up with them up her bum and one bum cheeky hanging out, which is obviously a disaster waiting to happen!
What am I doing wrong? This is my second child, never had issues like this with my eldest!

(and no, she isn't ready for potty training, she is very resistant and just gets upset so i'm not pushing it at the moment)

Use a smaller size and change it more frequently? I've got a massive 2.5 year old and she's only in size 6.

Put a bit of tape over the tabs so she can't open them.

Put a vest on her so she can't get to the tabs.

Tell her to stop opening the tabs (I'm guessing you've already tried that one!). But maybe let her wee on herself and feel the consequences of her nappy not being on properly and hope that she learns not to do it again.

Agree smaller size but change more frequently. Size 7 will be absolutely huge if she’s 2.5 but small for her age- DS is the same age, average weight but tall and is still in size 5s. However, she’s holding it for hours and hours then flooding then there’s nothing for it but to potty train which will be fine as the bladder control is clearly there.

Yes, she's definitely holding it for ages and then doing a massive wee! Think we will have a proper go at May Half-term, hopefully be good weather and she can just be bare bum outside!
She was about 11.5kg and 87cm at her 2.5 year review, she's just below the 25th centile I think, so quite diddy.
I've actually found some size 4 nappy pants and put one of them on her, we've not had a hungry bum yet :P

My 2.5 year old is in size 4s. I made the mistake of going up a size when we had a few leaks but it's surprising how really you'll need to likely go down a size.
If she's still wearing poppered vests make sure they're not too tight as well.

LamentedHelicopter · 16/05/2023 14:01

You may find that even if she's not ready for potty training she's able to partially change herself when wet. It seems a pointless step but might keep her happy of she knows she can take it off but only in the bathroom and must tell you she needs a new one.

sunshineandtea · 16/05/2023 14:03

Read Oh Crap Potty training book.
I guarantee that she IS ready- the fact she's cross about trying and is holding the wee in tells you she is ready.

Heckythump1 · 16/05/2023 14:07

She isn't intentionally taking the nappy off, she strokes the edge of her vest whilst she's sucking her thumb and it then opens the nappy :P
We've had a couple of goes at potty training and she's been very resistant and got very worked up and upset, it's been quite a while since we tried though, so definitely worth another shot!

Find a nappy that is the right shape for yr child, don’t give squash as it is a diuretic so they wee more.

Popper vest and tights.
Never found a pull up that fits and doesn’t leak especially with girls.

Agree that size 7 sounds massive, my small 3.5 year old is in size 5 (ASD so not fully potty trained). Have you tried the Aldi + range, they're more absorbent than the normal ones?
