Aptamil- why so expensive?

We've started moving away from ebf and onto combi feeding now my baby is 3 months old and started her on Aptamil- purely because that's what I did with my first DD 8 years ago. Back then all the formulas were the same price as far as I remember. I've just been to Tescos and noticed that Aptamil is £15 and Cow & Gate is £10. Does anyone know why?! I also have a vague memory that both brands were the exact same milk, made in the same factory. Does anyone know if this is still true? If so, I'm swapping straight over 🤣. Is Aptamil better in any way? Thanks

I'm pretty sure it's just marketing, the price rise in aptamil really annoys me! I have a 15 month old, it was £11.95 when I had him, now I'm paying £14.50 a box for his brother!

Literally marketing. They are juat a brand of Nutrica - who own cow and gate, aptamil plus a few other specialist formulas.

If cow and gate is readily avavaliable where you live, and baby gets on ok, i would swap over.

A mid wife once told me the only difference really with formulas is the picture on the box

Theres very little difference in formulas, The composition of all infant formula and follow-on formula in the UK is strictly controlled under The Infant Formula and Follow-on Formula (England) regulations. This means the core ingredients of all formulas are identical,

Thank you. I'll buy a box of C&G and start doing one feed a day to swap her over slowly x

If you have an asda near you, C&G is £8 iirc 👍

The Aldi Mamia formula is about £8.50. I've compared the ingredients on the tins and the are so similar! Bet they are made in the same factory too.

Alarae · 15/05/2023 16:51

I used Aldi Mamia formula for my DD and was told that it was basically Aptamil and made in the same factory.

If you have one nearby, that might be a good swap?

All baby formulas are subject to such strict lists of ingredients and components that all of them are virtually identical, from aldi to Aptamil gold. The only exception being the prescription formulas for CMPA or nutriprem etc. I would move over to cow & gate as it's virtually identical to Aptamil. As PP have said, it's marketing!

Some have more vitamins in than others.

they all have a base of so many vitamins in, but aptimil have added extra stuff in like fish oil etc
