Chicken pox or viral rash?

Hi all,

DD age 3 has had a cold for the last couple of weeks, Saturday morning she woke up with a rash and I instantly thought chicken pox. However when I looked at pictures online, it didn't quite look the same. Most of the rash on her legs and arms was blotchy, rather than individual spots.

My DH nipped to the pharmacy and showed them a few pics and they said it could be viral rash, allergy or it could be chicken pox and to see how it develops. He brought home some piriton in case it was an allergy.

She's not complained about being itchy at all and seems fine in herself. Today a few "spots" seem more individual but most of the rash still seems blotchy. Today it seems to have spread to her stomach.

At what stage would it be obvious that it is definitely chicken pox if it is? At this point I'm not sure whether to treat it as chicken pox or not - we've obviously spent the weekend at home but not sure how long to "wait to see what's happening".

Chicken pox forms into fluid filled blisters so if there aren't blisters it's unlikely to be CP.

Yeah this is what I'm thinking, there aren't any blisters yet. Would they have developed within this timeframe (first noticed rash yesterday morning) if they were going to?
