Reception hearing test “no clear response”

My 5yo DS had his reception hearing test recently and failed. I spoke to the nurse and she said one ear was fine, but the other was marked as “no clear response.” I asked what that means, I.e. was there no response to any of the sounds at all, or only from a certain number of sounds? She wouldn’t be drawn and only said I need to make an appointment for my son to see the GP for referral. I suddenly feel very anxious about this. He does say “what? Pardon? Huh” a lot but I just assumed he was a 5 year old who doesn’t always listen well!

I had to have grommets as a child, I still remember going into hospital for them, it was very exciting, I got a teddy bear. My hearing is perfect now.

Try not to be worried, it may be easily fixed, and at least it’s only one ear.

If he passed his newborn hearing test it’s most likely glue ear which most children literally grow out of.

My child had this. Went to the GP who said he will likely grow out if it and he has. I had grommets as a child and it was fine.

Yes, this. Don't panic.
