I posted last month about little boys poo going up his back at least once a day ; well it is now happening every poo nearly. I’ve since tried 6 different brands and upped his vest size and still struggling. Mamia size 2s we never had a problem but size 3s we have had nothing but problems no matter what nappy. He’s 4 month and 16 lb but most nappies seem to go up to 20-22lb ish and the next size seem to start at 20?

i was recommended cloth nappies on the last thread but it seems very overwhelming and I really don’t know where to start any advice is really appreciated as I’m getting fed up and dreading being out and about and it happening. Or any other tips on the nappies would be appreciated x

See if there's a nappy service or rental scheme to try before you buy

Are you doing them up tight enough?

Are you using all in ones?

We’ve always used a 2 part system and never really had the up the back problem so long as everything is well tucked in.

I don’t remember how the sizing works but have you given up a size too soon? It does sound like they aren’t tight enough.

See if you've got a nappy library locally (they will probably have a Facebook page). They'll give you a demo and let you hire a kit - ours is £10 for a months hire.

If you don't have a nappy library nearby the nappy lady has a questionnaire that can help you with a starting point. They also have a Facebook page with lots of helpful members and a strong second hand market!

We started off with two-part nappies, these are shaped absorbent nappies and a "wrap" that goes over the top. These are pretty fool-proof in terms of fit and work well but are quite bulky.

We then got some velcro fastening all-in-ones, these are, as the name suggests, all parts of the nappy joined together. They worked great for a while but then we started getting leaks as they are less absorbent than other types of nappy, you can add layers of "boosters" to them but it doesn't always help.

We now use those as we bought so many but also have some popper fastening pocket nappies. These are like a shell with an outer waterproof layer and a soft inner and a hole on the waistband where you can insert the absorbent boosters. I love these, you can add as much absorbency as you like and the poppers give a better fit than velcro.

Once your baby is weaning you also might want to think about liners, you can get disposable ones so the poo gets thrown away or use fleece ones so that you can plop the poo in the toilet (or in our case rinse it in an old mop bucket then chuck the dirty water down the loo)

I love reusables as I find disposables rather flimsy if we do ever need to use them but I can't deny they are more work.
