New baby and toddler prefers dad

Hi all - just looking for some words of reassurance really from people who have been through something similar. I have two beautiful boys - a two year old and an almost three month old. Before my second was born I was worried about how it would impact my relationship with my eldest and all my fears seem to be coming true. My eldest son only wants his dad when all of us are around. This is getting worse, not better, as time goes on, and he is now being quite “cruel” (in speech marks because I know he is two and cannot really be cruel). He’s off with me and the baby three days a week (at nursery the other two) and I’m doing all the things you’re supposed to - making sure there’s one on one time for us, asking the baby to wait t times. But more and more he just wants his dad. I’m worried I’ve damaged our relationship for good.

I think this is normal and almost inevitable when a new baby is born if mum is breastfeeding. My daughter very much switched from a mummy's girl to the complete opposite when she became a sister aged 20 months. It was dramatic.

New baby is now eight months and things are much more even again - I only here "no, daddy do it" maybe three times a day now, as opposed to 100 😂

I can remember DS being quite cross with me over the new baby, to be fair he did show anger towards his DF too a couple of times.

He soon came back around.

Congratulations on your new LO Flowers
