Can anyone help with what a state of mind assessment is for a young child (4.5) how they work, what’s involved etc?

thanks

I am not a child psychotherapist but a psychologist who has worked with them. From my understanding it’s an assessment that can take place over one or a few sessions, to understand the child’s view of the world, their relationships, and how they feel about their relationships. Also looking at whether a talking therapy would be of use, but with kids of that age it’s usually parent & child work if therapy is recommended.

Thank you @SRK16 that’s really helpful. My husband and I have seen her quite a few times now to discuss him and she has now mentioned observing him in nursery and doing state of mind assessment this was at end of the last session so didn’t get a chance to ask what it involves.
