Arching back whilst eating 7 months

Does anyone else’s child sort of dance in the high chair when they’re eating? We’re weaning at the minute and my LO sort of throws herself backwards in the high chair like she’s arching her back repetitively. Not sure if I should be concerned or not?

Yes my daughter did this, we had the ikea high chair without a food rest. We decided to change her chair to one with a rest which helped, but she does still like to rock now and again (stimming, the HV wasn’t concerned when I showed her a video) she’s nearly 3 and only really does it now if she’s really tired or upset to regulate herself.

**foot rest

We have a high chair with a footrest, but I definitely think it’s sort of a self regulating thing. Is it normal for all children to self regulate in different ways?

The HV told me not to worry but I agree I was worried like you are as it looks so uncomfortable. Nursery also noticed it but told us they weren’t concerned when we asked.

talk to your HV though to set your mind at rest. I think a lot of children (and adults) stim in some form and it depends on other factors if it should be a concern or not. I took a video to the checkup.
