Travelling with 9 month old

Myself and my husband are looking at travelling over to the UK to see friends and their new baby. With the way flight times are and costs we’re looking at maybe going over and back in a day, flights are about 45 mins - 1 hour. We’re thinking of taking our 9 month old with us but not sure how she’d be with all that travel in one day. Is it nuts? Or is it any different to going on a long haul flight with connecting flights etc?

I don’t think it’s nuts. You wouldn’t question doing a car journey for that length. She’s very young and so long as she’s with you I’m sure she’ll be happy. Take plenty of snacks, some new toys and some random bits for her to play with and she’ll be fine. You’ll probably be shattered though 🙈

Can’t you even stay one night? Sounds super exhausting for everyone. Even a one hour flight means an extra 2 hours per flight at the airport and these days most flights are delayed too…

So with transfers/airport time/flight you are looking at a minimum of 6 - 7 hour travel time. I wouldn’t fancy that in one day with a small child.

I’d be fine with it.

Yeah no different to a long haul with connections but you normally have a nice long holiday at the end of that. It seems like a lot of hassle for such a short trip, I'd stay at least one night. But, totally do-able if it's what you want.

Wouldnt have done it with my 9 month old. But if you’ve got one of those chilled out, doesn’t require much entertainment, sleeps anywhere 9
month olds it’d probably be fine.

I wouldn’t. Even a 1 hr flight is the time to get to airport, check in before and flight and security the other end -3/4 hrs really each way, ie 8hrs a day. To just see a baby and friends an hour or two? Why?
I would go 2 night minimum so you can actually see friends a whole day, and enjoy.

Would be exhausting, but yes it's doable. This month I brought my 21 mo on a 4.5 hour drive followed by 8 hour boat trip on the same day (plus time faffing before you actually get on the boat). He actually only required two 15 minutes chunks of screen time the entire day.

Prep lots of activities and snacks, and yeah download a bit of netflix or something for when you get really stuck
