Hi everyone,
DD is turning 1 soon and we are just looking for some birthday gift inspiration!
We're very lucky that she has a lot of family and friends who absolutely adore her and want to buy her something really special, but we have absolutely no ideas what to suggest to people!
(We are putting money aside in a bank account also, but looking for gift ideas)
Thank you!

Unless you buy her something for when she's older, there's not much you can get that she won't outgrow quite quickly.
She's one. She won't remember what you bought. I'd find some nice toys and possibly buy her some jewellery to give her when she's old enough, if you really want to get something special. Or premium bonds.

What about a play table? That'll last a long while?

Mylittlebirdie02 · 29/04/2023 11:15

@KnickerlessParsons we brought her some jewellery when she was born that we're saving for when she's 18. Her first birthday is quite a big deal to us as our first child sadly didn't make it to his first birthday. We know she won't remember it, but we certainly will 😊

@bravotango will look into those, thank you!

We got my daughter garden toys for her first birthday. We bought a swing, grandparents bought a slide, auntie bought a paddling pool/ball pit.

So sorry for your loss, a special piece of jewellery for your DD is a wonderful idea. There's an Instagram account called eatsybitsyaden and she has loads of great play ideas that seem to involve a play table so that might be one place to look!

i feel like in the first year our babies are ready for so many different things and different times, baby has already had and outgrown a jumperoo, has already been gifted or handed down lots of lovely things, ride on toy, balance bike etc etc.
We will be needing a new car seat soon, and a baby bike seat… it all adds up!

plus my little one is looking to be ready for first shoes for first birthday so will probably get on actual birthday, (as will celebrate with family another day). I had considered a personalised copy of a nice book but all the ones I liked are out of stock! But then I remembered I’ll have a compelled ‘my first year’ book and I thought that will be a nice thing to gift.

I can’t decide wether to get some jewellery or not. I already know lots of family are as we are having a christening…

We asked for a 3 in 1 microscooter. At the first stage they sit on it and you push them along and DD absolutely loves it, then as they grow converts to a normal scooter. Will last until she's 4 or 5 so I thought it would be a good investment

Another idea is if you have a zoo or activity place near you that does yearly memberships. We are members for our local zoo and go with DD at least once a month.

We got ours a rocking horse with straps so he doesn't fall off as his main present. We also got him a train that spells out his name to put in his bedroom and a special soft toy. Tried to buy things that he could have for a while and/or treasure in the future.

We got a xylophone and a rag doll, both of which have lasted well.

DS got a wee table and chairs set from ikea from my inlaws that is still used daily 2 years on. Would recommend!
