Help! Late application to school!

Hello everyone

I need to put in a late application for a primary school place due to change of circumstances.
Not keen on schools nearby. We'll definitely get allocated one of them though right? No chance at this stage of getting somewhere good?
How can you tell which schools are oversubscribed?

For what year group? If year 2 or below you will get a school which has a space unless you fall into on of the exceptions. What is the change of circumstances?

For reception. Is it likely to be the closest one to us?
We were due to move out of area and now aren't.

Nobody can tell you really as all the areas will be different. You should phone the school you want, see if there is a place and if not ask to go on the waiting list I think.

They do have to give you a place but it can be anywhere so I'd apply ASAP. I don't know when a late application becomes an in year application though.

Unless you meet the very strict criteria eg adopted from care then school can’t go above 30 children to one teacher ratio. I would start ringing around the school and asking if they have space/how long their waiting lists are and asking to go on the waiting list.

Ot will be the nearest school with space, not necessarilyyour closest school. You can go on the waiting list for any school you like though, and sometimes you get lucky.

Thanks everyone I've been on the phone to the school admissions board this morning and feel a bit better now I have more of an understanding of the situation.

Our local area has published how many spaces each school has after round one. In our area reception seems to be a low birth rate year and there are several well regarded schools with places which is unusual. Your council website may have this info but to be honest you’d be as well to phone them.
