Hi everyone. My LG has just turned 4 months old and is obsessed with putting her hands in her mouth. It’s like she just can’t stop so I think it’s the start of her trying to self soothe. The trouble is at night, no matter how short I keep her nails, she always seems to end up scratching herself and I’m worried about her scratching her eyes so she wears scratch mitts. Of course she then can’t suck on her hands (although she does and the mitts get soaked!) She also can’t fall asleep without her dummy, and the constant hand sucking keeps knocking it out, causing frustration for everyone involved!
What would everyone do? Take off the scratch mitts and allow her to try and self soothe? (Hasn’t worked so far as she still seems to need the dummy.) Or keep them on to keep her eyes safe and continue with the frustration til she finds a way to fall asleep?
