my 2 year old has this rash on both sides of her face it’s like under her skin. looks like tiny burst veins. she’s totally herself running all over the place not acting unwell at all but it’s not disappearing under a glass which is concerning me a bit.

have already phoned 111 who said they’ll get back to me within 2 hours but hoping someone on here has had similar and can tell me what it ended up being?

Have you got a chemist open near you? If you don't want to take her to the hospital and can't get an immediate doctors appointment you could get the pharmacist to take a look.

It does look like a petechial rash, but you can get them for many reasons. The rash in meningitis almost always occurs at the end of the disease, with fever, neck stiffness, photophobia and drowsiness occurring before hand. Sometimes very fast ☹️. So the rash from meningitis occurs often when the person is very very ill I can't remember offhand the mechanism but it's something to do with the blood vessels dilating and causing bleeding under the skin.

Get it checked out if you are worried of course, but I wouldn't be concerned about meningitis.

Does she have an ear infection if it's all around one side?

weirdeash · 23/04/2023 16:26

Looks very similar to the kind of rash I get after eating strawberries, no other allergy symptoms except the rash and it only ever occurs on my face no where else. It usually fades in the space of a couple of hours.

Has your DD eaten anything that she doesn’t usually?

mummyh2016 · 23/04/2023 16:48

Unlikely however 111 will call you back and send you to A+E as a rash that doesn't disappear under a glass is a symptom of sepsis. Happened to me a few years ago with DD, her rash looked the same.

Does look like a petechial rash, and really does need checking out as it can be a lot of causes not just meningitis

nocoolnamesleft · 23/04/2023 17:25

Looks highly likely to be a petechial rash. Needs checking out.

WhisperingAutistic · 23/04/2023 17:39

Has she been coughing? My son gets them round his eyes when he's been coughing hard.
They do look like petechiae though so go and get them checked.

My daughter had it as a baby: the spots begin as purpley/blue spots, quite far apart. Then more and more appear over the next 24 hours. They will look a bit like very dark pin pricks.

It does look like a petechial rash so get it checked. There are a lot of causes for it though, not just meningitis. My ds gets it every time he has a virus.

What was this? My daughter has the same and a little concerned.
