Antibiotic Amoxicillin disrupting toddlers sleep?

Hi everyone,

My 2.5 year old is currently on a course of Amoxicillin for tonsillitis and it seems to be really disturbing his sleep.

He's taking over an hour to fall asleep for his nap and bedtime (he is tired and wants to sleep) and then he's waking in the night for a couple of hours (again he is tried and trying to sleep but can't) He also seems extra irritable.

It's not the actual tonsillitis symptoms that are keeping him awake as they have all but gone, it seems to completely coincide with the antibiotics.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I definately think it's the illness not the medication. I've never heard of anti-biotics stopping people sleeping before.

Huh? It’ll be the tonsillitis not the antibiotics…

I know it sounds odd but it's definitely not the tonsillitis and it's not just his sleep that's affected as it also affects his behaviour, he's like a different child. That doesn't happen when he's ill and not taking antibiotics.

I read somewhere that some kids can have this reaction to the colouring they use in liquid antibiotics or just to the antibiotic itself.
