If my child turns 5 October 2024 when do I apply for schools?

My council website page keeps saying it doesn't exist, so if anyone would kindly advise I would really appreciate it

If you are in England it will be later this autumn.

You will have until around the 15 January 2024 to apply.

Schools will start publishing their open days/hours from the end of August.

Applications open in September and close on 15 January. Your child will be 3 or have just turned 4 when you apply.
You’ll need to apply then even if you want your child to start part-way through the year."

So, this coming September 2023 your child will be 3 about to turn 4, so that's when you will apply.

The window for applications for primary will open in the autumn of this year and close in Jan/Feb 2024. Then you'll find out his school in April 2024 ready for a September 2024 start.

You should receive a letter in the post, and often the schools have the links on their web pages. The link won't currently be active because school places have just been allocated for September 2023.

In my county it would be this month you’d find out where he’d got a space and you would have had to submit your application by mid-January. But you need to check with your county council. Phone or email them if the website isn’t working.

Sorry - muddled up years. Apply by mid-Jan 2024 and find out in April 2024 to start in Sept 2024.
