HELP! Sleeping toddler with temperature

Just as the title says. Toddler has a temperature and has not been 'right' for a few days.
Very grizzly and sleeping today but also playing in intervals. Toddler is currently sleeping but just felt him and he is boiling hot. He can have more calpol at half 1. Surely I should wake him to give it to him if his temperature is up? Or do I leave him as 'sleep is the best medicine'? Sorry if this is a silly question I'm all alone here

What is his temp measuring, and where is he sleeping? Windows open in room? Pyjamas on or no clothes?

temperaturehelp · 14/04/2023 01:05

Temp is 37.4
I'm on the floor in his room
Windows closed - didn't think to open them (sleep deprived mum here)
Pajamas and blanket

Thats not too high. I would leave him, open the windows and cross my fingers that he sleeps it off

temperaturehelp · 14/04/2023 01:16

Thank you.
I've now opened the window and will keep a close eye

Hi,

How he is now?

37.4 isn't really a high temperature. He is probably fighting something off and his body is going into fight mode. The higher temperatures are his bodies way of combating illness.

I don't think I would open the window - 17c isn't overly warm and when I sought advice about a high temp of over 40 I was told not to artificially cool them down but just to make sure they aren't over dressed for the temperature of the room.

The NHS website is relatively good for immediate practical advice.

I don't mean to offend but do you suffer from health anxiety?

Hope he's on the mend x

I know he's probably awake now, but for future reference, if he has a high temperature (37.4 isn't high) opening the windows isn't a good idea (especially in a 17° room), making them too cold can cause them to start shivering which is the bodies natural way of warming itself up, thus increasing their temperature.

Thanks for the replies all.

Update He woke up and had a few spots so took him to the doctors and he has chicken pox. Plenty of fluids and rest for the next few days
