Another long night with 6 month old

Dd up until a few days ago slept through the night, 7-6. Not sure what's happened but she keeps waking up fussing, I think it was her teeth last night (still hasn't got any yet) and the nights before she was crying out moving around and then farting so must've been trapped wind. Possibly the weaning is causing this ?

Is there a 6 month sleep regression?

Also, she only has very short cat naps during the day, then it seems like only an hour later she is rubbing her eyes tired again, are these not really short wake windows ?

Sorry this sounds tough OP! There is a 6 month sleep regression. I think if babies that age have cat naps their wake windows decrease. I remember some sleep expert saying it's roughly double the nap time (I.e if they sleep 30 mins is an hour approx they will get tired again) in some cases anyway. Could try extending the naps by contact napping if possible? My 7 month old only naps 30 minutes in his cot so I ususally contact nap if I can to try to get him to nap for an hour x

Yes, I remember 6 months being hard sleep wise.

Though as hard as it is it’s pretty great that your little one slept through before then! We’ve only just reached a stage of constantly sleeping through and DS is almost 2 😂

It’ll pass, though you are getting close to the age where there’s always teeth or coughs and colds that keep them up.

She does sleep longer when on me but that means I'm then stuck and can't get anything done 😆

Is she probably overtired then as she isn't napping long enough throughout the day?

We didn't experience the 4 month sleep regression I thought I'd got away with it lol

Found sleep from 6-7.5 months absolute hell. Teeth, new foods.. something was always annoying him.

It will get better. He's 10 mo the now and for the last two months has slept amazingly !

Keep the same routine, calpol if baby is really struggling, and we moved dinner a little earlier to 4.30 (usually 5) for a bit so he got all his wind and had a poo before bed which seemed to help.

It will pass x

Cluelessfirstimer · 13/04/2023 10:13

Oh and the cat naps are annoying. For us they passed naturally and got longer about 8 months

babysleepchange · 13/04/2023 10:28

Thank you! She really really fights every nap too, so she gets so worked up and I don't think that helps does it as she wakes up sooner due to being overtired

Have you tried taking her for a walk in the buggy. Mine wouldn't go In the cot during the day and I didn't want to put them off it at night so I just went for a walk and managed to bring the Buggy in where they slept for a bit.

babysleepchange · 13/04/2023 11:01

Yeah sometimes she will drop off but it takes ages, then usually once the buggy has stopped moving she will notice 😆

For us at 6 mo he went from sleeping through the night to waking hourly. This lasted 2 months and only ended when I night weaned (previously BF to sleep). It was hard going.

He also cat napped and that was the hardest thing! His naps finally got longer when he started crawling at 9mo, I guess as he was tired out.

Hang in there. It's a phase.

Another bad night, last bottle 6ish, dd went to bed around 7pm, went straight off then woke about 12ish, this happened 2-3 times and in the end I caved and made a bottle about 2.30, she drained it and then slept the rest of the night !! Feel like I've gone backwards but she was clearly hungry

She's probably just having a growth spurt and is hungry overnight. Just feed her when she wakes.

babysleepchange · 14/04/2023 10:14

Wondering if a dream feed around 10ish would help?

Nights got bad for us around 6-7 months, turned out he just needed to drop a nap. We switched to 2 naps and things improved after a few days. Naps extended once he adjusted to the new schedule.
