Potty Trained, but suddenly getting nappy rash - WTF?

My DD 2.6 is potty training. Nappies just couldn't cope/contain all the pee so despite our lives being a bit upside down at the moment, we've gone for it. Lo and behold we had two accidents day one, one day two, and day three we have had none. She is asking for the potty and the toilet and doing wee and poo on both - hurrah!

So why, when I bathed her this evening did I notice her little butt cheeks are red raw with nappy rash? She never got it the entire time she was in nappies.

Obviously there's something not quite up to scratch about my potty hygiene standards - can someone explain what might be happening? She does have mild eczema - could this be relevant? What do most people do after a week in the potty? I am just chucking it down the loo, then rinising and chucking that water down the loo. Any ideas?

Congratualtions on your training!

Funnily enough nappy rash can occur just from a change in nappy environment. The skin takes a while to adjust to a change in pH. I wonder if her skin is just adjusting to not having a warm nappy which has urine in it.

Sounds silly I know but even 10 months after potty training my DD sometimes gets a sort of rash on her bum (most noticeable in the bath but maybe that is because I don't see her bum so often now ) she has mild eczema too.

btw that is all I did with a wee'd in potty. I don't think your potty cleaning is causing the problem tbh.

This happened to ds1. he got 'pants rash'!

My DD had it too. Cleared up in a couple of weeks. I do exactly the same with her potty, so don't worry.

Thanks ladies - particularly for posting on not the most exciting of threads. Wopped a load of bepanthen on last night and seems a lot better today, but good to know she's not a lone case.

Am relievd to have found this old thread - was panicking as DS also has a rash on bum & we are toilet training at the moment. Any tips of what to put on him?

Whew, it's not just us. And DS isn't using a potty, just sitting on the loo, but his poor little arse looks like a cold pizza at the moment. He doesn't seem bothered, apart from scratchign a bit. I put some savlon on it tonight, will see if that helps.
