If you have a floor bed…

Can you share what your setup is? DS is 21 months and I currently sleep in his room on a mattress on the floor as he still wakes several times and it’s the easiest way to resettle him (if I don’t respond near enough instantly he gets worked up and ends up wide awake). Over time though he’s more and more been coming into bed with me. As the mattress is just on the floor, it gets really warm as no airflow. So I’m currently trying to decide whether to change his cot bed to a bed and try to sneak away after laying with him when he wakes up, or go for a bigger floor bed with a base so I can stay with him on nights when he’s waking more frequently. Thanks!

Have you considered a futon? We never had a cot at all just a single futon that they slept on until they were secondary age.

I had a floor bed for eldest from 15 months to nearly 3 years. Basically had 2 single mattresses, so her half and my half. It was near enough that she had my presence for comfort but we didn't didisturb each other.

@CurlewKate we actually have one downstairs and so I did wonder if we could use the frame and then pop the mattress on. The only issue is he likes to sleep pressed right up against me and I always end up with very little space right on the edge of the bed. At the moment my mattress is between his cot and a chest of drawers, so I can’t fall out/get pushed out, so thinking about it I think we maybe need a floor bed with a proper frame.

@TinyTeacher oh that sounds good! Unfortunately mine likes to sleep squashed up against me as he uses my hair as a comforter, so not sure that would work for us.

I tried laying down in his cot bed earlier and have come to the realisation that there’s absolutely no way we could both get comfy in there, even if I tried sneaking back to my room once he was asleep!

We’ve got these Ikea wooden slats on the floor and a double mattress on top. The slats allow airflow and prevent the mattress from going mouldy. They’re designed to be used in a proper bed frame but we’ve been using them direct on the floor and no problems so far.
