Potty training 3yo

Hello, Not my first potty training experience, in comparison DC1 was easy now I'm training DC2.

I'm nervous now, DC2 starts school in Sept (Wales) just turned 3 though. I've been gentle and gradual, trying pants on, letting them sit on it until they are physically comfortable with potty, great.

Then we started, first time there were I guess dribbles on potty or full on wet pants. Second day DC2 held their wee in for 8 hours, had little dribbles in pants and potty and wouldn't let go on potty. Gave up before bed and put nappy back on as they were getting upset.

I tried the next day and again held it in, I haven't tried since as they've been unwell but I actually don't know where to go from here and I'm worried they won't be able to start school.

They know now they don't like wet, as they even take their own nappy off when it's wet and they are comfortable to sit on it when I say go potty and they'll sit on it for 15 minutes with nothing! So I think it's the releasing part (I've tried water sounds ect). Help 😭

Have you tried bribery? A promise of a chocolate button / sticker / whatever can be a strong motivator, and once they've found out nothing scary happens that reluctance is gone.

Yes I've bought a small characters on sale that they watch on tv, haribo and when they did the little wee we stuck the sticker to the potty lid (helped with my first) and called dad in to make a fuss ect.

I've even put my first born on it and he's 6 🤣. Let them watch me wee on toilet, dad wee, eldest wee. You can tell DC understands but it's almost stubborness, wouldn't even drink until nappy was back on.
