Help! Baby tummy times in sleep and wakes up all night!

My 7 month old boy has been able to roll for a while now, but he started getting himself into the tummy time position repeatedly at night. When he does so he seems to wake himself up and starts to cry. I try to reset him/soothe him in his bedside crib, but it doesnt last long before he does it again. He also gets into the child pose yoga position and thrusts his bum around, shaking the whole crib, as though hes crying to crawl! This has been happening for over a week now and I'm getting next to no sleep from around 2am to morning.

Has anyone else experienced this? And does anyone have any advice as how to deal with it? So tired as I write this I was even contemplating putting him in his own room and letting him cry it out but I can't quite bring myself to do it!

Thanks,
Kate

Very common when they're learning a new skill - how close is he to learning to crawl?

Thanks, good to know I'm not alone! Pretty close to crawling I think, although he doesn't sit up by himself yet, he sticks his bum in the air and kicks both his legs out when tummy timing, looks like the beginning of a crawling action to me. Just wish he didn't do it at in his dreams at night and get himself upset! Any idea of how long these phases last? Or if I should encourage him to crawl more to get over the phase quicker?
