Constipation due to dairy?

Hi

My just turned 2 year old has been on laxido since last summer, one satchet a day. As a baby she was breastfed and had no constipation at all, all started once weaned after 1 year old. Once starting using laxido she is usually OK however is constipated once again and I am stumped as to why, as she is still on laxido possibly could be due to antibiotics a few weeks ago. I am looking into getting some probiotics for this. Regardless of this I would really like to understand why she originally became constipated after weaning and resolve it once and for all. I am thinking dairy could be why, she isn't a big milk drinker but does love a babybel once a day and icecream and those yollies yogurt sticks. I have been reluctant to stop these as she loves them and it's calcium. My question is ,has anyone experienced a constipated toddler due to dairy and has it resolved on cutting it out?. I will just add she has never had rashes/eczema etc which seems common with a dairy allergy.

Thanks

Yes. Both my daughters were constipated by dairy. I cut it out completely then mostly followed the milk ladder to reintroduce and see at what point it made a difference. For us cheese or cooked dairy was fine but milkshakes or ice cream a no.

Thankyou YomAsal. Did they outgrow it at all and were they like this from being weaned? Did you try the vegan icecreams, cheese etc?

Hi my child was constipated with eczema on dairy. Once we cut this out the symptoms eased. He does have a stretched bowel so currently still on a minimal dose of cosmocol to soften stools but he is so much better. We have failed the milk ladder on the first attempt so will try again in a few months time.

Oh vegan ice creams and chocolate are fine for my child and we use alternative milks with no problem. Some dairy allergy children do also struggle with soya so definitely worth reviewing with your child’s paediatrician or dietician. I use flora in place of butter and it makes the loveliest cupcakes - it’s amazing how quickly you can adapt their diets
