Baby eye contact and social smiles

Baby boy has just turned 6 weeks and no social smiles yet. I know this is still early days on that front but I'm a bit anxious about this milestone as I've noticed he doesn't tend to maintain eye contact with us for long. He often looks away to the side or ceiling.

He will track toys and smiles a little bit at one in particular, but we don't get much of a response when talking or singing to him.

He is a bit fussy with gas atm so is perhaps a bit overstimulated and concentrating on his tummy a lot.

Does this sound normal or should he be a bit more focused on our faces by now?

He's very very young to worry. Please don't read too much about milestones and enjoy time with your baby.

They’re all different. My son was full on smiling at 6 weeks, but my second baby (currently 12 weeks) really didn’t smile until 8 weeks and then only at me for a few more weeks. She’s only just started smiling at other people in the last week or two.
Keep talking to him and smiling at him, he’ll get there in his own time 🙂

Ds didn’t do it till he turned 2 months. Health visitor at 6weeks said it wasn’t a concern till 10weeks.
