Afternoon All,

I am a mummy of 2 girls ages 1 and 5. I'm hoping to adopt some gentle parenting ideas into my parenting as my eldest is a very sensitive soul. Has an one got any constructive advice?

Thanks :)

Read up on difference between gentle and permissive parenting- lots of people get confused between the too.

Remember you are only human and can probably only manage gentle parenting about 90% of the time.

Janet Lansburys books and podcasts are good - "no bad kids" and "elevating childcare", the podcast is "unruffled". Also, "how to talk so little kids will listen".

JL is respectful/authoritative (not to be confused with authoritarian) parenting, not gentle. And is fab. Highly recommended her method (RIE).

Id avoid actual gentle parenting. As per pp it often strays into the permissive.

Sarah Ockwell Smith is the oracle of gentle parenting.

I liked the book 'easier, calmer, happier parenting'. The focus is very much on clear expectations that are appropriate to the childs development level and consequences that 'make sense'.

"How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk" is a good book. I have 2 boys, age 14 and 12, both very sensitive (the second one is sensitive and stubborn at the same time). I would say, definitely no shouting. Look at your life in general - are you trying to achieve too much? Children would rather have a simple pasta dish and a smiley mum than an elaborate meal with a stressed out mum. I hope it helps
