Babies first night in own room!

Just that really! 😣

baby is six months in a fortnight and we are making the most of the long weekend and moving him to his cot tonight (he’s currently asleep in it). I know guidance is 6 months but he now surpasses the 9kg weight limit on the next to me, and he basically touches all sides of it so he was not sleeping well and so neither were we! It feels so strange, I’m going to miss him! Why am I so emotional haha

how did other peoples little ones get on when moved?
had a question re the monitor actually - when we are downstairs and he is sleeping we watch on the monitor however do people keep that on when they go to bed? I think it would run out of charge haha or do you just sleep with doors open and hope you hear baby? He has great lungs so if he needed us he would sure let us know! What do others do?

We just moved his cot into our room at 6 months and continued sleeping in the same room. I felt he was too little to sleep by himself in a big room and i liked having him near me, but I know lots of people do it. I was BF so it was easier to keep him next to me for night feeds. I think he moved into his own room around 13 months or so and I kept the monitor on but just the sound over night.

We have the monitor on all night on the bedside table. It’s plugged in overnight so won’t run out of charge. We have it facedown so it’s not too bright but keep the sound up on full.

Good luck! It’s a strange transition but since we did it everyone sleeps so much better

Monitor charges overnight in our room and is on 2/5. We always hear her.

Oh my goodness, I feel you.

We did the exact same. Moved our girl at 5.5 months for same reasons.

I cried myself to sleep that night. But she was a dream. Slept right through and didn't really notice.

That was my hope. Make the change before she's too "aware" and it was the perfect decision.

Now I love putting her down in her magical little nursery and me and DH have a sex life again 😂😂😂

I have monitor on bedside table and charging all night. I have full volume just because I'm paranoid about not waking up if she cries x

Many years ago when dd was 8 months we moved house and dd went in her own room first night.
Next morning me and dp stood nervously outside her door when we realised she had slept through.... She was sat up smiling just waiting for us to go get her!

Monitor plugged in next to the bedside all night. I just leave it on the lowest volume because we have white noise in his room but I always wake up if he cries. Moving him to his own room was great for us and we all started getting more sleep, I was anxious about it for the first few nights though.

ecossegirl91 · 07/04/2023 21:19

Ok so consensus is to plug the monitor in and keep on which is no bother. We are in a new build and he’s literally feet from us so I’m sure we’ll hear him! He thumps his legs constant in the night too 😂

We don’t have space in our room to put a full size cot in and he’s ff and not actually needed a night for a while so any trips thru to his room should be for dummy and ssssh back to sleep 🙈🤞🏻

We do monitor on all night and plugged in but I hear her and usually wake up 5 mins before she cries anyway (must be a mum thing 😂). We moved baby into her own room between 4-5 months as we were waking her up and none of us were sleeping. She sleeps a lot better in her own room and I actually finally started to get some rest!

Moved into own room at 6 months
Video monitor plugged in
I sleep with a blackout eye mask and volume on low so I can still hear her if she cries
Sometimes I hear her through the wall as she's right next door but it's nice to hear her on the monitor also

We moved baby in their own room at 7 months and it was really emotional haha. We keep the monitor plugged in all night in our bedroom, the screen and sound automatically go quiet unless baby makes a noise and then it automatically switches on x
