I overheard a conversation at toddler group where a women said she had started her child on the naughty step at 10 months.

This seems like madness to me,what do you think?

I agree with the others.

WanderingTrolley · 14/02/2008 10:55

Lunacy.

Woman needs to sit on the nincompoop step and Think About What She Did.

Bluestocking · 14/02/2008 10:56

IMO, the naughty step at any age is a complete waste of time!

smartiejake · 14/02/2008 10:56

How ridiculous! 10 months! Poor baby!

GColdtimer · 14/02/2008 10:57

lol wanderingtrolley, I agree, its madness. One of my over-eager friends told us she was going to try it with her ds at this age and after we had stopped laughing at her we did manage to persuade her that it "wasn't going to work".

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2008 10:57

madness! ds is almost 10mo, is just starting to understand 'no'
doesn't he fall off the step / climb down anyway?

Sunshinemummy · 14/02/2008 10:58

Much too young. The baby will have no idea what it's all about and how can a 10m old be naughty anyway?

nickytwotimes · 14/02/2008 10:58

10 mths is FAR too young!

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2008 11:00

exactly, 10mo can't be naughty, just curious and demanding!

magHOOVERlia74 · 14/02/2008 11:02

ds1 is 14 months and would think it great fun If I put him on a step!
He is just learning the word NO! But way too young for anything else.

TillyScoutsmum · 14/02/2008 11:08

How on earth do you get a 10 month old to keep still anywhere ??

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2008 11:17

exactly, and they're hardly goin g to be thinking about what they've done are they? They're either going to be climbing up the stairs or sticking their fingers in the nearest socket!

Elffriend · 14/02/2008 12:01

DS 18 months sits on the step to put on his shoes (or wellies!) so would be extrmeley happy to be put on the step. Ptreey damn narked though if this was not followed through promptly with said shoes and coat.

How daft! Quite aside from the fact that a 10 month old has absolutely no concept of "naughty"!

pooka · 14/02/2008 12:03

Crazy lady.

TigerFeet · 14/02/2008 12:07

WHAT?

words fail me

what had/hadn't the baby done? How on earth can a 10mo be naughty?

I am stunned.

Jojay · 14/02/2008 12:09

Bonkers

ALMummy · 14/02/2008 12:12

Are you serious? My DC are 5 and 18 months respectively and even now with my DS at age 5 I rarely time him out and never have with my DD who is 18 months. Sometimes I wonder if I just dont consider things to be naughty in the way that others do. I dont think small kids are naughty - just curious and trying things out.

Reallytired · 14/02/2008 12:38

I think that naughty step is fairly useless before the age of three years old.

Distraction is a better tactic for a baby. It is a tiring age. I suggest she baby proofs the house.

kiskidee · 14/02/2008 12:48

sad really.

i think many teachers see the effects of this sort of overzealous misguided parenting when their children reach school age.

OverMyDeadBody · 14/02/2008 12:53

The woman is delusional.

Poor baby. I'd hate to think what she is actually deeming naughty behaviour and punishing him for

Let's hope she attempts it a few times before realising her mistake.

robinredbreast · 14/02/2008 13:10

cruel imo
and downright stupid
