Hi

I have a 4 year old and he has been sick tonight. He said he felt sick and 20 mins later brought up dinner and a bit of lunch. I am so phobic of vomiting bugs it really really scares me that it is contagious. I love having children but this bit is so difficult for me and I just fall apart. Any advice would be great.

Tia

Oh no :( I absolutely hate when little ones are ill, cold, sickness bug anything. My anxiety goes through the roof so sending lots of hugs to you and the little one. A few things that help me when dealing with sickness bugs…

1). the sickness doesn’t usually last longer than 24-48 hours (my experience is that it’s usually the lower end of this).
2). Keep washing your hands!!!
3). Sip of water, maybe even crushed up pieces of ice to suck on to keep hydrated without overloading the system with water too fast.

I would say you could wear a mask when LO is sick but that might make them feel uneasy (I would… but that’s just me!)

I also try to remember how i used to feel as a child when I was ill and what I liked best…
my mum used to bring me ice chips, lucozade with a straw, she used to read to me until I fell to sleep and play gentle music on the radio to distract me…. Not saying you need to do those, but just try to create a nice atmosphere for the little one to relax as much as possible. They might remember some of the things you do when they are older!

oh… and make sure you get a cup of tea for yourself and try to keep calm.

hope they are better soon xxxx

keep telling yourself that it will pass, because it will xxx

Thank you both. It was half an hour from feeling sick to being. I just hate the thought of me vomiting or my partner or other one getting it. I get so stressed with it all I make it worse I am sure !!

I completely understand - my husband never seems to pick up the sickness bugs from the kids but I always seem to get them, even with all the hand washing. Maybe a mask would be worthwhile?

youre not on your own with the stress but do try not to freak out xxx

I'm the husband lol but my partner is the same to be honest alot. Maybe it will be a mask job.

ahhhh must be difficult if you are both a bit panicky!! I’m the panicker in our house, my husband is chilled… too chilled sometimes and it can cause a different set of arguments 🤣🫣

yes get those masks out! Hopefully the sickness passes tonight and tomorrow will be better!

Shemovesshemoves21 · 05/04/2023 20:30

Oh dear! They do tend to pass quickly. Just make sure you thoroughly wash your hands, anything you touch or your child touches and hopefully you'll escape it!

I understand its horrible when your child is ill and you have a phobia of sickness, I used to myself but after having 5 children I'm over that, but please don't wear a bloody mask around your 4 year old! They will be feeling shitty enough as it is without worrying that their own parent is disgusted enough to wear a mask! It's also unlikely to do anything
