Nappy change meltdowns

DD (11m) has in the past few weeks started to absolutely hate having her nappy change. By absolutely hate I mean panics when she is carried close to the mat, tries to cling on for dear life and starts getting upset before you've even attempted to put her down and then once on the mat gets so worked up she can be sick. Weirdly though the very first nappy change right after waking up in the morning is okay, but every single one throughout the rest of the day/evening is horrific. She doesn't and never has had nappy rash so I really don't know what's triggered it, but I'm getting anxious when I know it needs doing because it's really upsetting to watch how much it bothers her.

Any ideas on how to help get her to tolerate it again?

I think most kids go through phases of this. The only thing you can do is try to distract - sing loudly, give a special toy to hold while it's happening, make silly faces, etc. It will pass.

As @CoalCraft says it’s pretty normal. You describe her as panicking but it may not be that.
You could either continue but make it as quick and efficient as possible.
She will be ok and forget it all very quickly. Try to reduce your anxiety as she will pick up on that. Singing, distraction, tickling etc. All helps. As does lack of anticipation.
Or swap to pull ups. Then no need to lay down. Can me messy with number 2s though.

My response is “yep”. I don’t know anyone who says every change is problem free. Similarly the first change of the day is okay, it’s also
okay if we’re not at home.
