Hi
What's happening? Sorry you are going through this, I'll try to help as much as I can.

How old is your baby? Some things that helped us were:

Burping baby for longer than you think you need to
Keeping upright for 20 minutes after a feed
Paced feeding (we formula feed)
Lots and lots of tummy massage/bicycle legs

Throwing up all of his feed (breast milk).

Went to gp but she's pretty much said it's a normal thing that happens didn't give much advice how to manage ...

He is 9 weeks... I breastfeed and he isn't feeding that "long" about 4 minutes ...

I find it really difficult to keep him settled for even 15 minutes doesn't like to be upright for that long ☹️

If breastfeeding, have you had your latch checked and assessed for tongue tie? Both can cause reflux.

ATerrorofLeftovers · 05/04/2023 00:21

Is he in pain, or are you just worried about him not getting enough milk?

Ahh yeah I remember those days. What are his nappies like? Have they got mucus in them?
My lo was throwing up just about all his feeds (breastfed for first 8 weeks) too. Horrible nappies up to 10 times a day. Crying and unsettled all the time. Have they checked for tongue tie? Has he got dry skin? Reflux can be a symptom of a tongue tie or CMPA. My lo had both.
Things I did. Do pace feeding and burp quite often, hold upright for 15/20 mins after feed. Had next to me crib and tilted that, head side up. I'll try to think of other things x

He sometimes cries after a feed but that's not all the time.

Yes because he has been throwing up so much milk. GP said he looks hydrated though... but still worries me

@anniz91 we're going through this with our 10 week old, it's a nightmare isn't it! Had tongue tie snipped but doesn't seem to have helped much.

If it's a new thing, could it be a sickness bug causing it?

GP says it's reflux ... been going on for more than 2 days now though

Is he gaining weight and increasing percentiles? That's pretty much all Drs care about.

Reflux is a symptom of a wider cause. You can medicate but it really shouldn't be relied on long term and can cause further complications such as chronic constipation.

You need to find the cause to improve it. Tongue tie and allergies seem to be the major causes or body trauma/tightness from a difficult birth.

Does anyone know if i can just put my baby on anti reflux is he’s got all signs of reflux without consulting GP?

No, that wouldn't be recommended and doesn't deal with the cause. Self medicating a baby is potentially dangerous

With 4 minute feeds, do you have a fast letdown?
I had a fast letdown and my daughter had horrendous reflux. At peak being sick 6 times a feed and then reflux on top. I had a couple of appointments with the infant feeding team for feeding position with fast letdowns - leaning back and pressing the flow as it starts with a muslin until it calms down to reduce to flow at the start of the feed.

My daughter has very stubborn reflux and even with heavy duty meds it's not controlled aged 3 but this did help quite a bit and made the feeds more tolerable. As we were having feeding aversions due to the reflux and the letdown
