Does anyone have any tips on how to get a toddler to let you cut their toenails?

He's 2.9 and terrified. He doesn't like his finger nails being cut either but can be bribed/cajoled into it. His toenails are a no-go zone though. I could offer him all the Kinder eggs and squashy skittles in the world and still won't let us anywhere near them with the clippers.

We've tried everything we can think of:

Scissors instead of clippers
Distraction
Bribery
Letting him watch us cut our nails first
Letting him hold the clippers and pretend to cut our nails

His toenails are beyond a joke and desperately need cut but we're at a loss as to how to do it. Took us over half an hour of tears and wriggling to get one foot done this morning with no chance of getting the other one.

We've attempted it whilst he's sleeping but he wakes. Tried in the bath but he wriggles and pulls his foot away. Tried cuddling him in and holding him in place but he's too big/strong to be restrained.

Any suggestions welcome.

Wait until they are asleep.

Could you show him how you do yours? And paint them bright red, and say he can have a colour too? Tbh I'd try anything because if they tear (too low into the nailbed) it could cause more problems as I guess you have already thought about. A bit of nail polish never hurt anyone except as this is Mn someone will say painting a child's nails is worthy of reporting to SS... anyway it worked for me and DC are healthy adults.
