Omezaprole - 5months old

Long story short - little boy is 5m and always had reflux can spit up 20 times a day easily but always gained weight very well (75th percentile) so was deemed a happy spitter upper and was told he would grow out of it.
he is very unsettled and has been since birth Altho he slept ok at night ( but now this has gone to pot, possibly teething and regression) and his naps are now a fight to the death 😭
he cries a LOT and fusses a lot but again was told this would improve. It hasn’t. His cries seem like he is in pain and he spits up a clear horrid smelling liquid frequently which I assume is stomach acid, we have tried carobel to varying degrees of effectiveness but I understand this wouldn’t help the acid.

health visitor said to ask for omezaprole (sp?) which I am going to to - any experiences ? Am I late in starting this at 5months? He is also so so hard to wind now (never used to be) and has developed potentially eczema (Altho could be drool / teething rash) so cmpa did enter my mind but the rash has only appeared in last ten days and sometimes looks red sometimes not noticeable… plus with his weight gain and excitement to see a bottle plus nappies look normal I think it’s more likely to be reflux than cmpa affecting his mood?

it’s been a really rough 5 months of constant hysterical tears and lots of fussiness and just hope it gets easier 🥲 feel I have spent a lot of his life waiting - waiting for 12 weeks, then 4m and now 6m. Wishing his wee life away 😣

My little boy has suspected CMPA and is currently following an elimination diet. He sounds very similar so it’s definitely something to ask about as an intolerance would make baby very unhappy

I asked about cmpa they thought unlikely (he’s ff so can’t try elimination).
ive to use gaviscon for a bit and if no improvement or constipation then on to omezaprole

I just wrote you a big long message and lost it 😫

Long story short, I've been there and really feel for you. Just because a baby has good weight gain, doesn't mean they haven't got CMPA. My DD is now 91st centile and has CMPA.

Push for omaprezole and a trial of CMPA formula. Aptamil Pepti 1 worked well for my DD although I know it still has some low levels of cow's milk protein in it (Neocate is an amino acid formula so if your child has an extreme allergy it would work better for them). The Aptamil formula is thin but with carobel it worked really well for my DD and I saw an improvement quickly. How is your DS's nappies?

Be warned the GP might be quite cautious about omaprezole dosage as it is prescribed off-licence for babies. A paediatrician increased my DD's dosage (I called 111 one day when my daughter was hysterical after feeding).

I really hope you see improvements. Things aren't perfect for my DD still but they are a lot lot better with the Aptamil Pepti 1, carobel and omaprezole.

My little one was the same I ended spending a week at the doctors and in the end the hospital gave me it and it took time to work as it has to build up what dose is ur little one on I feel ur pain it goes on weight so might need to be looked at again if little one has put on weight

My little one was put on omaprezole at around 3 months old and turned into a different baby. He was initially on a low dose and it increased a little as his weight increased. His reflux really improved when weaned and he was able to come off it. In my experience it’s worth a try.

Push for liquid omeprazole instead of the capsules. In the short term, you can buy gaviscon for babies over the counter.
