Is this chicken pox?

Hello,
My son was quite unwell the last week. This morning he woke up with quite a big red looking spot, the one later appeared near his chest and on his hand. He also started scratching his belly not long after but only did that the once.
Does this by any chance look like chicken pox?

Yes that looks like the beginning of chickenpox. My son has just had it and thats what his looked like for a start. It started off slow then more and more spots appeared over a few days.

Ohh not good!! I have been wondering all day if it is or not. Does it get worse overnight would you say?

Looks like it could be, they usually start on the trunk (tummy area). It appears to be going around at the moment too.

I will see how he is in the morning. If there are no more then it probably isn't??

Looks like chicken pox to me too. The first 24 hours the spots start slowly and then suddenly there are lots.

My son had one spot on his back for about a whole day. Then the next day he had 3 more on his tummy but that was it. When he woke up the next day he was covered.

He's woke up with another little one on his leg, then one on his hand looks a little bigger now. But because he's hardly woke up with anyway I'm just confused if it is this or not? This is the one on his belly today.

Looks like it could well be. I once heard you should bathe them in a warm bath - and if the spots pop up, you'll know.

Not sure there is anything truth in it - I guess the warmth would encourage them.

Also be aware that you can have a mild case. My DD had mild cp when she was 3, with only a few spots. She went on to have a much worse case when she was 6.

The red spots will start to fill with clear fluid if they're CP.

Looks very similar to what my little boy had a few weeks ago. Nothing on chest or back though, was only on the arms and legs. Some of the red spots were quite big and looked very much like mosquito bites. The spots never developed a scab or blister though and both the pharmacist and GP said not chicken pox although neither knew exactly what it was. Also he was well in himself and wasn't itchy. The spots just turned dark and faded into what looks like little bruises, which are still visible. When you say your son was unwell did he have a sickness and diarrhoea bug just before the spots by any chance?

Topjoe19 · 31/03/2023 15:09

I don't think that's chicken pox.

Teapleasemilknosugar · 01/04/2023 17:16

Mine has come down with CP in the last few days. Started with 2 little red dot spots on day 1, 4 by day 2 morning, 7 by day 2 evening, and then overnight loads! Little one did actually have a bath before bed that night so perhaps some truth in pp comment! 80 ish by day 3 morning, too many to count by day 3 evening. Now they're big angry red blisters with a clear filled fluid on torso, hands (palms mainly) genitals, bottom, face and scalp. Very itchy. Loss of appetite and loss of interest in doing anything. Aged 2. My little ones don't look like the one on yours belly though. 🤷

He only had three dots so I'm really unsure what it could be. Not sure if it is cp but he's still coughing etc.
