Anyone awake? Sick baby

My one year old usually sleeps well but is struggling tonight as she's unwell. She sleeps beautifully on me but wakes and screams / cries the second she's put in her cot. It's so hard. I'm so exhausted. She only napped for 20 mins and woke up multiple times in the evening so it's been full on. I really need a break from her even an hour to sleep would be great. Any words of support much appreciated. I'm really struggling.

Do you have any calpol? Has she got a temperature?

bakewellbride · 30/03/2023 00:36

She's had everything she needs. Thank you but I'm really just after some words of support

I used to hold the phrase "this too shall pass" in my head. It was still hard, but remembering that it wouldn't be forever helped me a bit.

Been here so many times!

You'll get through it. Do you know what's wrong? Eg ears or tummy etc?

bakewellbride · 30/03/2023 00:50

Thank you both. Just so tired. Also she plays with my hair and I just hate the sensation, as heartless as that sounds.

I've had literally zero sleep and between 5 and 6:30am my eldest is going to spring up ready for me to get him ready for school. I just don't know how to do it.

You're going to have a rough night, but you are going to get through it. Can you have her sleep with you? I know it's going to be awful and rough, it's a one off and it'll pass. Hand hold op xx

You don't know how you'll do it but you will. That's the joy of parenting.

Fwiw Dd used to twirl my hair and I found it a bit sensory overloading but now I'd give anything to have her do it!

Makingamess4212 · 30/03/2023 01:07

Hand holds 💕

Not sure if you've tried this before, but do you have a hot water bottle? Or heating pad of any kind? I usually warm something along those lines up, put it in the cot for a couple mins and then take it out. When you place the baby in it will still feel warm like your body. Even put a dirty t-shirt of yours in there too (not minging I just mean for the smell). This is all stuff I learnt for puppies but honestly works a treat with little'uns too.

Fingers crossed whatever happens you manage some sleep at least x

TheCentreSlide · 30/03/2023 01:07

Can you co sleep with her? Forget the cot tonight, just snuggle up and get as much sleep as you can?

LadyJ2023 · 30/03/2023 01:40

You may have to co sleep we have 3 under 2 currently sleep training so crying is normal tonight.but if they were unwell they would be in with me. One of our daughters loved twirling my hair so we swapped her to a piece of ribbon as I also hated hair touched lol now she fine with a ribbon

I'm up with a poorly 5 month old sleeping on my chest so I feel your pain OP! I also have a chest infection myself so could really do with some sleep. Last night was hideous too and I have a long day with both girls tomorrow (eldest is 2 years 10 months)
