Any tips to stop thumb sucking?

DD is 2.5 years old and is a thumb sucker. Her teeth are getting quite bad now and I have no idea where to start on getting her to stop. We’ve tried to explain about teeth, and point out the callus on her thumb now too but she’s not bothered at all (obvs as she’s only 2)

if anyone can suggest how I go about this that would be so great! Thank you!

Please don't encourage her to stop, she's so little, it's her comfort, I sucked my thumb until I was 9 as did my sister (I think she did until much older) and neither of us needed braces

My DS is 11, still sucks his thumb and will definitely need braces. I have no idea how to make kids stop - but I'm with you OP - I'm open to more helpful advice than 'do nothing, it'll be fine'.

DC2 stopped when they caught hand, foot and mouth. It was too painful for them to suck. Never went back to it when they got better.

My daughter was older (around six) and the dentist warned us her thumb sucking was starting to push her teeth forwards. My dc sucked his middle two fingers so much that he made them sore so we taped them up with micropore tape for a day or two. He never sucked them again.
