Help me get some perspective on my always poorly baby!

Hoping fellow mumsnetters can help me gain a bit of perspective / maybe provide some reassurance!

I have posted a separate thread last year about my forever poorly DS, now just keen to hear others experiences as I’d love to hear if you’ve been thru similar and if so when it eased up!

He’s now 14 months and has had high temperatures (and utter misery/crying/off his food/not sleeping) every few weeks since he was 6 months old.

Anyone able to share your experience of this age? I’ve found it personally exhausting, anxiety inducing and really feel like it’s robbing the joy of looking after my little man, every few weeks he’s just beside himself!

Seen GP now and then - always say it’s viral, he rarely has other symptoms (twice he’s had a cough, once I think a tummy bug, every other time of which there have been total 15 in 7 months just a high temp and all round misery).

Just to be clear it’s not that he has a temp but is otherwise ‘fine’ - he is a totally different baby we just can’t pinpoint a specific illness!

Anyone else been thru this? How often does your LO get temps/become unwell and when might I expect this to get better or is this my life for the next 3-5+ years!?

It depends. Is he otherwise healthy?
Does he attend nursery?
They do catch A LOT of bugs at this age as they are just building up their immunity. It's particularly worse this year because of the lockdown with covid the other bugs have become stronger.
I have a 15 month old and he had covid when he was 5 months, was poorly on and off October through to December. Had the flu in January. He's had coughs/colds since too but not ones that have bothered him.

Thanks @swirly456 yeah he’s growing ok etc otherwise! Not quite at nursery, starting next week - so I’m anticipating it getting worse before it gets better.

Weirdly we all caught COVID when he was 5 months too! And that for us was far easier to contend with than the constant recurrent temps we’ve had since lol!

Sounds like your son has had plenty of viruses to contend with, which is rubbish obvz but reassuring. I think it’s not that he’s catching viruses that concerns me (assuming that’s what it is), it’s just how totally miserable he is when he does become unwell, which in turn means it’s super exhausting for us too. I pray for a sniffle / cold that he can just crack on with!
