First Holiday with a 5 Month Old - TIPS

Hey.

We have just booked our first ever holiday in June of this year to some self-catering accommodation in Lanzarote when our son will be 5.5 months.

He is fully formula fed and we are flying BA from Gatwick. We will be starting weening upon our return so won’t have to worry about any solids whilst we are away.

Me and my husband are very organised and want to be prepared to make it as smooth as possible.

As such, any tips/advice for either the flight or whilst we are away would be great!

Thanks in advance.

We're going away when DD is 9 months. We're taking the perfect prep machine with us and I've just bought a uv steriliser for her bottles as it's really light weight.

A few people have said to click and collect ready made formula at the airport for the flight.

We're taking a lightweight buggy up to the boarding gate.

Definitely a stroller to go through the airport and give them at the gate. If you haven't got one already do consider one with a lie flat function for good naps!
A carrier/sling is a must have for boarding and before you get the stroller back

Interested too as just booked a trip for next month when dd will be 6 months.
Do people usually take car seats?

We've hired one at the other end. Tui advised us not to take one because they will get thrown in the hold and possibly damaged 🙄

I am just back from the canaries with my 5 month old who is not a chill baby 😂 so it was not my most relaxing trip, there were lots of tears/tantrums but also some really lovely moments too!

the plane rides gave me the most anxiety tbh and he wasn’t too bad so if your baby is more chill, chances are you’ll be fine!

he was very hot tho which made him grumpy so he only wore a nappy during the day and rompers at night. He slept loads during the day and also at night and we made sure to feed frequently for hydration.

we used a Milton cold water steriliser which highly recommend, got Amazon spinner toys for the plane. We made sure to feed during descent for the ears and it really helped! The ascent didn’t bother him much.

didn’t take a car seat and held baby on lap for coach transfer and didn’t drive anywhere.

i found people were actually very sympathetic to a crying baby on a plane which really helped and I actually cried because of peoples kindness when my LO kicked off 😂🙈

we also took a snooze shade and loved it for daytime and nighttime naps. Defo recommend. Plus a little clip on fan for the stroller.
you can also do a click and collect order for boots after security for some ready made formula / powder etc so it doesn’t count towards your luggage allowance.
