Could this be teeth?!

So my DS is 22 months and has had a hard time of it with nursery illness since August last year, with a nice long illness free break over Christmas right through til Feb. Our luck was due to run out, and in the last 4 weeks he’s had: an ear infection, hand foot and mouth, the same ear infection again, and now a virus thing coming with a couple of days of high temp followed by a runny nose and barking cough.

I’ve been putting his terrible mood down to all of this, but his mood really is terrible, much more than during any of the previous bouts of illness. I know we’re also at the whole developmental stage that produces the terrible two’s. Everything is a tantrum, he’s upset over so many things, clingy, just not a happy little boy. He’s a bit more picky with his food, but is eating ok. There’s nothing I can pinpoint as causing the moods. He’s just not happy.

I noticed yesterday that his bottom two canines are coming in, and the top two are half way down. I also thought I could see half a second molar in the back of his mouth. He is slabbering like crazy and rubbing his nose and mouth a lot, all classic teething signs.

I’ve read the two year molars can be brutal, but can they be this bad? He’s never loved teething, but this seems excessive. Could it be as simple as teeth?
